Tonight, we begin a (brief - one lesson) Bible Study on the book of 2 John. John refers to the church as the "elect lady" and the church's members as "her children." The church is a family of "fellowship."
As an elect lady, the church lives by Jesus' incarnation and by the commandment to "love one another." How wonderful for such a simple prescription for the church. In Simple Church, Thom Rainer and Eric Geiger say that the church should return to its simple roots. For the elder in 2 John, truth for the church is simple - faith in the incarnation of Jesus and love.
My prayer is that Christians and churches will return to the "simple" truths of the scriptures.
